Will facial recognition prevent mass shootings?

A technology company developed a tool that they think will prevent mass shootings by creating a facial recognition system that tracks all of the students within the school. If someone enters the school who isn’t in the system they’ll supposedly set off an alarm.

At first blush, this sounds like a good idea. But upon further consideration, it really doesn’t make much sense. Aren’t most school shooters currently enrolled in the system? Are random strangers walking into schools to commit crimes?

The security improvement does not seem to be worth the privacy concerns.
