LINDON — The Lindon Police Department have recovered one of the most peculiar stolen items yet — bagpipes.
Cameron Braithwaite is just a normal teenager who has a job flipping burgers at Chubby’s restaurant in Pleasant Grove, but his true passion is playing the bagpipes.
“I was about 9-years-old and I saw a picture of a bagpiper and I just wanted to learn,” Braithwaite said while standing over a grill.
Unfortunately, Cameron’s playing days came to a halt when someone broke into his car and stole his beloved instrument.
“It was just devastation, kind of embarrassment too,” Braightwaite said. “My mom always told me to keep them in the house and lock my car.”
He contacted local police and with the hopes of getting his prized possession back.
“(Cameron) asked what the possibility would be of getting his bagpipe back, and I was like, ‘Well in all my years doing (police work), this is the first case of bagpipes ever taken,’” Lindon Police Sgt. Josh Edwards said.
Luckily, just a short time later, the stolen pipes were found in a stolen vehicle in a different city.
“About five minutes later, I get a call from a Pleasant Grove sergeant saying, ‘Hey, we have your bagpipes,'” Edwards recalled.
Luckily, they don’t get stolen very often, so there weren’t a lot of other cases when the pipes were found.
KSL-TV’s Ashley Kewish reports the bagpipes are worth about $2,000.
