MERIDIAN, Idaho — An Idaho man is suing his insurance company for denying his claim for a life-saving flight to Salt Lake City.

Paul Vinci’s total medical bills came close to $1 million.

“While I think I’m a very valuable member of society, if each of us had a $1-million bill every year, it would be hard for us to justify our existence,” Vinci said.

But Regence BlueShield of Idaho denied Vinci’s $57,000-claim to pay for a Life Flight from Meridian to the University of Utah Hospital.

Vinci tells the Idaho Statesman he’s suing his insurer.

“There’s a certain accountability that, I guess, is assumed that your insurance company is in your corner because, for 35 years, you’ve paid every bill on time,” Vinci said.

Vinci hired a lawyer. No comment from Regence BlueShield or Life Flight.
