SOUTH SALT LAKE — Utah Highway Patrol troopers say a semi driver carrying produce lost control as his tractor-trailer transitioned from I-80 westbound to I-15 northbound early this morning, jack-knifing and blocking multiple lanes of I-15 near 2100 South.

The truck hit a concrete barrier around 4:30 a.m., spilling diesel fuel and engine oil on the road.

The driver was unhurt. A passenger was taken to the hospital to be treated for a cut on his arm. No other vehicles were involved.

Crews were using sand to absorb the oil and clean up the spill. Troopers say the road was wet from overnight rain and may have been slick.

A second accident later in the commute resulted in a combined 17 miles of delays from Bluffdale into South Salt Lake on I-15, resulting double the travel time for most commuters in that direction.

The second crash on I-15 northbound had 4-lanes closed for at least 10 minutes.  The cars were eventually moved to the right side of the freeway and blocked the right lane and shoulder for another 20-minutes.

Both crashes were cleared by 9am, but residual delays remained on I-15 for another half-an-hour.
