SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Jazz fans are reeling after a loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves that saw Derrick Rose explode for 50-points, as Jazz guard, Donovan Mitchell, sat on the court due to hamstring tightness.
Point guard Jeff Teague was also ruled out for the game due to a sore left knee after colliding with LeBron James during their victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night, so a majority of Minnesota’s playmaking was in the hands of former MVP, Derrick Rose and he did not disappoint.
The game was relatively close throughout the game, with the Wolves taking a 10-point lead at the top of the second quarter as All-Star Jimmy Butler sat out due to general soreness, that is sure to be a continuing discussion.
The Jazz would finally take a 1-point lead with 3:10 left in the third quarter behind Donovan Mitchell and former Defensive Player of the Year, Rudy Gobert, with some added help off the bench from Jae Crowder.
But as the Jazz began to take the lead, Rose was able to take control for the Wolves putting them 128-127, following a pair of free throws with 13.8 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
A missed three-pointer by Joe Ingles, eventually lead to a rebound by Crowder, who tossed it to Dante Exum for the corner three but the possible game-tying shot was blocked by none other than Derrick Rose.
Mitchell added 26 points and 5 assists, while Rudy Gobert ended with 22 points and 13 rebounds, making it his third straight game with 20-plus points and 10-plus rebounds.
Alec Burks was ruled out due to a left-hand sprain that also left him out of Sunday’s matchup against the Dallas Mavericks.
Ricky Rubio still hasn’t been able to find his rhythm as his offensive struggles continue, only scoring 5 points, shooting 2-6 and racking up 6 turnovers.
The Jazz are set to play the Memphis Grizzlies at home tomorrow at 7 pm.
The Minnesota Timberwolves will play the Golden State Warriors at Golden State tomorrow at 8:30 pm.
