WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Two TRAX trains collided Thursday evening, and caused delays into Friday morning on the Green Line.

UTA says a TRAX train was coming around the corner at 3100 South and 2700 West at about 7:30 p.m. when the last car somehow derailed. It hit a power pole, and then another train.

“I would think it’s going to take a couple weeks for them to investigate this. Go back and look at the video footage, talk to the operators and try to find out what happened,” said UTA spokesman Carl Arky.

The power pole and wires came down. About 19 passengers were on one of the trains, and they had to wait about an hour until crews knew it was safe for them to exit.

“It was scary,” said passenger Elaine Bowman. “Just like being on a rollercoaster but I didn’t know if we were going to get hurt or not, so I didn’t know. It wasn’t very fun.”

Bus bridges were running around the area early Friday, but by lunchtime, the bus bridges had been canceled.
