The Grinch (2018)

Rated PG  for brief rude humor

Steve’s Rating: B-

It’s never too early to be annoyed by Christmas

One of the Holiday Season’s most well-known grumps is making their way back to the screen to breath new life to the classic Dr. Suess story, The Grinch. This go around The Grinch is brought back to the big screen by the same studio that’s brought Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets, and Sing, and the animation is something that both of our in-house moviegoers thought was something spectacular.

“The look of this movie is gorgeous!” says Steve. “This little Whoville town nestled up on the mountain and it’s just a beautiful little place. It’s gorgeous, it’s cute, and its Christmasy!”

But throughout the 86 minute film it wasn’t all just dancing sugar plumbs and roasted chestnuts.

“There is a fair bit of padding in the middle of this movie.” he continues.

“I mean, you know they’re going to steal Christmas, sure, but they go through the planning! First, you have to steal the sleigh, then you have to go find a reindeer, then you have to remodel the sleigh, then plan how to go through the town and where you’re going to go!”

“So you’re saying it got a little tedious in that middle section?” asked Doug.

“It’s padded, there’s no question about it, they’re just killing time, and it could’ve been a little tighter, and even at 86 minutes, you could feel the padding. But that all-important third act works!

“The first act works, the second act is padded, and the ending worked and poot me in the Christmas mood. I give this movie a B-, I was going to go B but it just dragged in the middle. ”
