Firefighters from several Utah fire departments are on their way to assist colleagues in California.

Firefighters from the Unified Fire Authority and 21 other fire departments throughout the state left Sunday morning to bring engines and manpower to the fight against the wildfires in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. All told, Utah is volunteering __ firefighters and 26 fire engines.

“Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they travel and assist the people in California,” the Lone Peak Fire District wrote of their firefighters on Facebook. “Firefighting is a dangerous job but we are honored to serve our neighbors at home as well as in neighboring states.”

The three wildfires burning in California have burned almost 7,000 structures and forced over 300,000 people to evacuate. At least 23 people are dead.
