SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah National Guard supported the daughter of a fallen Utah mayor, Maj. Brent Taylor, at her junior high school debate on Friday.

Taylor, who was on leave from his job as the mayor of North Ogden, was overseas in Afganistan on his fourth deployment when a man he was training reportedly turned on him and took his life.

At the event, Utah National Guard members stood for a full hour and a half while Taylor’s daughter debated, in support of her dad not being able to be there.

Taylor’s body will be brought to Roland R. Wright Air National Guard Base near the Salt Lake International Airport on Wednesday. A public memorial is scheduled for Friday at Weber State University’s Dee Events Center.
