OPINION: It’s time to listen to the studies on CTE

Just because something was one way when we were kids, does that mean it should always be that way?

A new study from researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill shows that high school football players can be at risk for CTE injuries even if they don’t have a concussion or get hit hard.

So why do some people think this is harmless? Too many people think that just because they played football in high school and feel fine that this should not be addressed.

This isn’t limited to football, either. Hockey, boxing, soccer, volleyball and other sports where kids can be hit in the head all carry the same risk.

So, just because we did something as kids and survived it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be smart about making our kids safer. Let’s listen to what the studies say and make changes to make sports better for kids.
