The Utah State Aggies are looking to continue its impressive season and build off its streak of nine straight wins.
It is not just that thy are winning games, but they are winning big in those games. They’re average margin of defeat is 29.4 points and is the third highest in the nation. Utah State’s only loss of the year came against then #11 ranked Michigan State University in the very first game of the season.
The Aggies also come in with a No. 14 ranking in the AP Poll. Per sports-reference.com the Aggies have its highest ranking in that poll since 1961 when it was ranked No. 10 and lost in the Gotham Bowl.
This week Utah State is traveling to Fort Collins to take on Colorado State. The Aggies have not beaten the Rams on the road since 2012 when it won 31-19. Head coach Matt Wells is expecting a fight despite the Aggies being the favorite to win.
“It’s a new stadium and it will be Senior Day, so they will be emotional,” Wells said. “They have very talented young men and it’s a team that has a lot of talent and can rally together.”
The players seem to agree with their head coach.
“In the past, they have been a challenge for us and we are not going to look past them,” said tight end Dax Raymond. This is a big game for us.”
Colorado State is currently sitting at 3-7 and have lost three in a row right now. The Aggies on the other hand are riding this current win streak and finally broke into the College Football Playoff ranking this week. But Wells says the team has not forgotten what the Rams did to them last year in a 27-14 loss.
“We looked bad last year against Colorado State in the first half. Their defensive line beat us up, their linebackers beat us up and we couldn’t do anything on offense. We couldn’t communicate to save our lives on defense and gave them some walk-off touchdowns. It was embarrassing in the first half the way we played against them. That already has gotten our guys’ attention,” said Wells.
Utah State’s game against the Rams will kick-off at 12 P.M. With a win they will move to 7-0 in conference play. The following week the Aggies will play at No. 25 ranked Boise State in what could be the deciding game for the conference championship.
