SALT LAKE CITY — A growing annual tradition aimed at promoting charitable giving this holiday season kicks off today: Giving Tuesday.

The global movement, which follows Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, which are all focused on shopping for the holidays, instead encourages people in Utah and around the world to give back by donating to charity.

Stephanie Stephens urges Utahns to donate to local homeless shelters.

“The donations matter because it lets us know that we matter,” Stephens says.

She was living on the streets for years until she learned about the help and resources available to those who are homeless.

“It’s the best thing,” she added. “It saved my life.”

KSL Newsradio and Cold are teaming up on Giving Tuesday to raise funds for the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition.

In light of the podcast, which investigates the 2009 disappearance of West Valley City’s Susan Powell, Cold and KSL hope to spread awareness about domestic violence and abuse — especially the idea that abuse does not always look like bruises. You can learn more and donate here.
