SALT LAKE CITY — Snow is expected to hit the Wasatch Front this weekend, and that could mean relief for Utah’s parched snowpack and reservoirs.
If all goes well with the wintry weather this weekend, “We should be at average conditions for the northern half of the state, with the southern half catching up, maybe 60-70 percent of average,” said National Weather Service Hydrologist Brian McInerney.
He added Utah has no high-pressure ridging like last year, meaning storms can drop rain and snow.
That could mean two feet in higher elevations this weekend. McInerney considers this perfect timing.
“We had such good carryover from 2017’s water year,” he said. “We’ve burned through all of that. We’ve had a record dry year.”
McInerney says Logan and the Unitas have the best snowpacks so far this year.
