WASHINGTON COUNTY — A sheriff’s deputy helped a mom safely deliver a new baby on the side of the road as his dash camera picked up audio of the entire situation.

Dispatchers got a call that the woman was in labor and her baby was coming quickly on the S.R. 59 near Sheeps Bridge Road in Washington County.

In the video, you can hear the deputy who was first on the scene encourage the woman to keep pushing. Then, finally, you hear the magic words.

“You got a girl!” he tells her, then encourages her to catch her breath and relax as medical crews arrive.

In a press release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Lt. David Crouse said the call came in around 5:43 p.m. on Tuesday. The deputy, he says, arrived less than a minute before fire and EMS crews.

“The deputy had just enough time to put on protective equipment before he was able to assist with the delivery,” Crouse said.

The family gave its permission to release the video from the deputy’s dash cam, saying they were thankful for all the first responders who helped welcome their newest family member to the world.
