WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, is defending President Trump against new accusations he paid hush money to cover up his affairs.

The new accusation comes from court filings, which allege Mr. Trump told his former lawyer to pay the hush money to women with whom he was alleged to have been involved in outside of his marriage.

But Hatch told CNN that Democrats will do anything to hurt the president.

“I don’t think he was involved in crimes but even then, you know, you can make anything a crime under the current laws if you want to you can blow it way out of proportion, you can do a lot of things,” he said on Monday.

Hatch also told CNN what happened before the election is one thing. but said since he has become president, the economy has charged ahead and we are all better off.

“The country is better off, and he’s done a whale of a job,” Hatch said. “I think we ought to get to where we support our presidents when they are right, and quit trying to destroy them just for political reasons.”

Hatch is retiring next month after 42 years, and has been a staunch ally of Trump throughout his presidency. He’s scheduled to give his final Senate speech tomorrow.
