SALT LAKE CITY — Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, is making a farewell tour of sorts.
The outgoing congressional representative sat down on MSNBC’s The Beat last night and was asked by host Ari Melber if President Donald Trump’s analysis was right when he said ‘Mia Love showed me no love’ after hearing she was behind in election vote counting.
Love replied, “Mr. Trump has an analysis for everyone, and what he says doesn’t affect me.”
The former Saratoga Springs mayor says she will continue to treat people with kindness and respect.
Love says she doesn’t like the words the president used to describe African-Americans, especially when Mr. Trump used an expletive to describe the home country of her immigrant parents, Haiti. However, she went on to say there are positives for Black Americans with the Trump administration, pointing out minorities have the highest employment now that they’ve had in a while.
The conversation then turned to how why minorities seem to vote Democrat over Republican. Love says minorities don’t really trust that Republicans care about them. She says the GOP needs to work to change that image.
The Utah representative was one of the few in President Trump’s political party to speak out against separating migrant children from their parents at the border when this first started being reported early this year.
Love says the issue over immigration is a constitutional one. And she was upset because, as she said, leadership in Congress wouldn’t bring the matter of separating children from families to the floor for a vote.
