BOISE — Win or lose, head BYU football coach Kalani Sitake says he’s proud of his team and everything they’ve accomplished this season, headed into the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise.

BYU has a 0-5 record against Boise State at Albertsons Stadium, so even though the bowl game opponent is Western Michigan, it’s a chance to finally win in Boise. It’s also the last game for the seniors, Sitake noted.

“More than anything, just seeing them graduate and progress in life. One day they are going to look back at it, be as old as I am, and just really be proud of what they did on the field and off the field,” Sitake said.

The seniors were reflective as well.

“It’s just been an incredible ride, and I’m so grateful I was able to play here at BYU; the friends I’ve been able to make, and the wonderful experiences I’ve been able to have,” said Austin Hoyt.

“You just think back on your time like, man, it came by fast,” said Sione Takitaki.

BYU and Western Michigan had one common opponent this year, Northern Illinois. The Broncos beat them but BYU did not.

The Cougars (6-6) are looking for a “w” today as an early Christmas present and to secure a winning record on the season. The game marks their 36th bowl appearance.
