SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Fire Department rescued a woman from the pond in Liberty Park Sunday afternoon after she fell through the ice.

According to SLFD Captain Adam Archuletta, the woman was chasing a ball and ran onto the ice. She was about 3/4 of the way across the pond when the ice cracked and she was plunged into waist-deep water. The woman declined medical assistance.

“With the fluctuations in temperature ice depth and stability can be difficult to gauge,” the fire department wrote on Facebook. “Please stay away from ponds, lakes, and streams.”

Authorities also assisted three snowmobilers who fell through the ice at Strawberry Reservoir on Saturday and an ice fisher who fell through at East Canyon Reservoir later that morning.

“The ice layers on the lake are not uniform. Some areas can still be dangerous. Be careful out there,” said Wasatch Search and Rescue after treating the snowmobilers for medical concerns.
