WEST JORDAN, Utah — New charges say a man planned to detonate pipe bombs around Salt Lake County on New Year’s Eve before changing his mind.

The Deseret News reports 40-year-old Rocky Andres Graczyk from West Jordan was charged in 3rd District Court with possession of explosive parts, a third-degree felony.

Court documents say family members told police in December that Graczyk kept asking them for money to buy guns, and sent a picture of nine pipe bombs, saying “check it out. Already made. Ready to go.”

Police say when they talked to him, he said he wanted to put them in garbage cans on New Year’s Eve but changed his mind.

He has a history of altercations with officers. Prosecutors have asked that Graczyk be held without bail.
