ST. GEORGE — The mayor of St. George, Jon Pike, found exactly how much money it takes to keep a National Park open for one week. $28,800 dollars.
And that will only pay to keep some restrooms open and trash collection. Zion has been open for the last two weeks during the government shutdown thanks to funds from the Zion Forever Project. But that money runs out on Saturday, January 5th.
So, Pike gathered more money from his city funds, Washington County, the Utah Office of Tourism and Zion Forever Project to keep the park open one more week until January 12th.
Each agency will pay $7200 each so tourists can enjoy the red rock national park.
