Cove development faces opposition in Hurricane City

HURRICANE CITY — The plan to bring a Disneyland-style development with an old west feel to Hurricane City is running into some opposition.
The $3 billion “Cove” will have an “Old West Town” with wild-west type shows and fake cowboy shootouts, as well as shops, a theatre, and hundreds of houses if approved.
The St. George News reports the plans include a 1,200 seat amphitheater and an RV park. The entire development sits on a 351 acre property near a retirement community and golf course.
At a city council meeting last month where the project was first discussed, the manager of that retirement community read a letter from residents expressing opposition. Those neighbors fear traffic and crime could increase while property values could take a hit. They’ll bring their concerns to the city’s planning commission tomorrow. An agenda for that meeting has not yet been posted to the Hurricane City website.
