WEST JORDAN — Four missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints were robbed at gunpoint Friday night, police said.

According to West Jordan Police Sgt. Dan Roberts, Michael Jon Willie, 25, approached the missionaries while intoxicated around 9:30 P.M. on Friday. He asked them for money, and when they said they did not have any, Willie allegedly became “insistent and demanding,” brandishing a knife and a gun.

Willie then forced the missionaries to walk to the Exxon Gas Station at 3731 West Jordan Landing Blvd. to retrieve some money, police said. One of the missionaries made a purchase in order to get cash back to give to Willie.

One of the missionaries managed to text a friend while walking to the gas station, Roberts said, and the friend then contacted police. West Jordan Police Department officers arrived at the gas station and arrested Willie on charges of aggravated robbery, possession of a concealed dangerous weapon and kidnapping.

The missionaries were not injured.
