IRS workers in Ogden to head back to work unpaid

OGDEN — 337 IRS workers in Utah have been recalled as the agency launches a contingency plan to make sure tax refunds are processed on time as the partial government shutdown drags into its fourth week.

The IRS has recalled about 60 percent of its workforce nationwide.

The National Treasury Employees Union and other unions had sued the government, arguing it’s illegal to force people to work without a paycheck, but a federal judge threw out the challenge yesterday.

But the NTEU Local 67, who represents the Ogden workers, says it’ll be tough for their members to find child care, fill up the gas tank, and put food on the table in the meantime.
