Utahns are split over whether the Legislature had a better solution on medical marijuana than the Proposition 2 passed by voters in November.
A new poll shows 39 percent of Utahns say the legislative rewrite is better than Prop 2. Thirty-four percent say there’s no difference and 11 percent don’t know.
The poll was conducted by Dan Jones & Associates for Utah Policy.
Views on the issue of how to introduce medical marijuana in Utah was split along lines of age, politics, and religion.
Among those polled, young people more liberal people were more likely to prefer Prop 2 over the new law.
Among those polled, 58 percent of “very active” members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were much more likely to support the rewrite.

The rewrite did not have large support among Democrats, unaffiliated voters, and other religious groups.
The controversial Prop 2 passed 52.75 percent to 47.25 percent in November. A legislative rewrite was passed overwhelmingly by the Utah Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Gary Herbert in early December.
