Maggie Huddleston – Sand Ridge Junior High

I would like to nominate Maggie Huddleston for Teacher Feature. Mrs. Huddleston teaches science at Sand Ridge Jr. High. My son had her last year and she went above and beyond what a teacher needed to do. Let me explain…

My son has a learning disability. It requires that teachers make many accommodations in the classroom in order for him to succeed. Mrs. Huddleston didn’t even blink an eye when I spoke with her about these. Some of these accommodations were reading tests aloud to my son, giving him extra time on things, paraphrasing all assignments and tests. She did these and much, much more. On one of his first tests, she called me at home to tell me how great he did. He got an A. What teacher cares that much to call the parent at home?? My son goes every morning and helps her in the classroom with various things. He still does it this year, even though she is not his teacher. She has little things for him to do and she always has a smile for him. Just recently she came to a choir concert he was in… just because she wanted to support him. This is way above and beyond her teaching duties. Her teaching in the classroom is fabulous. My son excelled in her classroom because of her way to make science fun and exciting. To have a son with a learning disability actually get an A in science was amazing, and he was so excited to go every day. She did all she needed to do to do meet his accommodations plus more. She has touched his life in more ways than in can put into words. She is an extraordinary person who has a love for teaching and for students and it shows. Please give her this recognition on behalf of my son and all other children who have a disability & have been touched by a teacher who just loved them.
