Eating the daily recommended amount of fruits and vegetables can be difficult for many people. But when affordability is the main reason for not eating healthy, the challenge can be next to impossible with a limited income. That is why a local organization called Utahns Against Hunger is stepping in.

Produce is a luxury when a food budget is tight. One of the goals of Utahns Against Hunger is to get more fresh, locally grown food available to food stamp recipients. The organization’s “Double Up Food Bucks” program provides an incentive for these families to buy more fruits and vegetables. The program matches up to 10 dollars in produce purchases at the Downtown Farmers Market.

The “Double Up Food Bucks” program empowers food stamp recipients to make healthy food choices by overcoming financial barriers. This program puts fresh produce in the hands of those who need it most.

SelectHealth recognizes Utahns Against Hunger and its healthy initiative as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
