The transition back to civilian life for returning combat veterans is difficult for many, and it’s common for veterans to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, anxiety, or depression. Service and companion dogs can make a major difference in the life of a veteran.

Canines With a Cause is an organization that helps veterans find hope and healing through canine companionship. Their dogs are rescued from shelters and given the chance at a new life, where they provide emotional therapy as companions to our nation’s veterans.

These shelter dogs are trained in local prisons by inmates. The inmates benefit from training the dogs, and it offers them another way to help the community. Canines With a Cause then places these service dogs with veterans in need at no-cost. By helping veterans heal, rescuing dogs from shelters, and using inmates as a means to train, Canines With a Cause is positively impacting all three lives.

SelectHealth recognizes the therapeutic work of Canines With a Cause as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
