Dementia is not a disease. It’s a general term for a decline in mental ability severe enough to reduce a person’s ability to do everyday activities. Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia.

An organization supporting individuals and families dealing with cognitive decline is the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Society of Southern Utah. They know that education empowers, so they offer an Early Stage Memory Loss Education series twice each year. The classes include a presentation by professionals in the field, support for caregivers, and a cognitive training session.

The Alzheimer’s and Dementia Society also offers a Memory Activity Class to provide brain stimulating and social activities to help slow cognitive decline and improve quality of life.

On November 8th in St. George, there will be a Walk to Support Local Grandparents to raise awareness.
SelectHealth recognizes the supportive services from the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Society of Southern Utah as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
