Mayor Ralph Becker has issued a challenge to youth and their parents to Go, Seek, and Discover by spending at least 30 minutes a day outdoors connecting with nature for a 30-day period. This new program, SLC Kids Explore, was designed to create exciting new outdoor opportunities for students and to raise public awareness about the health benefits of spending time in nature.
Cities across the nation have been creating programs in response to the increasing amount of time children spend in front of screens and the minimal time spent enjoying outdoor play. Salt Lake City has many beautiful outdoor and recreational areas, and it’s important that we pass on our appreciation of nature and a sense of environmental stewardship to the next generation.
A directory of free nature activities and suggestions on ways families can get active while having fun outdoors is available on their website goseekdiscover.com. A free community celebration will be held Wednesday, October 21st at 2:30 p.m. at Tracy Aviary.
SelectHealth recognizes the connection to nature provided by SLC Kids Explore as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
