Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness with multiple services that revitalize our community. The Salt Lake Valley Chapter began in 1986 and is changing lives and building neighborhoods one family at a time. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds houses with the help of homeowner families. The homes are affordable to low-income families because the houses are modest, built largely by volunteers and the families themselves, and are sold at no-profit with a no-interest mortgage. This offers a hand up, not a hand out.
Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity does more than new construction. Their Neighborhood Revitalization program focuses on renewing a homes’ integrity through exterior and interior home repairs to alleviate health, life, and safety issues.
Habitat’s ReStore is a retail outlet where quality used and surplus building materials are donated. Products are then sold, and proceeds fund their projects that revive neighborhoods.
SelectHealth recognizes the community building programs provided by Habitat for Humanity as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
