Utah Community Action Program runs the state’s largest Head Start, which is a federal program to help young children make a smooth transition to the school environment, get basic medical attention, and help their family on a path to self-sufficiency.
Head Start plays a key role in preparing children for school. Teachers and classrooms help each child develop important academic, social, and emotional skills. The curriculum encourages individual development in three key areas: language, literacy, and mathematics.
The health of Head Start children is a primary concern. They provide a comprehensive health service program, which includes preventive screenings and exams, as well as giving children two-thirds of their daily nutritional needs.
Head Start currently has openings and is available to children who turned 3 or 4 on September 1st. Walk-in application intakes are held every Wednesday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Head Start location on 336 East 3900 South.
SelectHealth recognizes the educational opportunities provided by Utah Community Action Program as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
