Citizens Reutilizing Assistive Technology Equipment, or CReATE, specializes in refurbishing donated wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility devices. Then they get the equipment to Utahns who need it at an affordable cost. Their work is needed because children grow, machines wear out, warranties expire, and costs aren’t always covered for equipment as often as people need it.
CReATE has been making Utahns smile for seven years. Last year, they helped more than 200 clients get moving again by providing equipment to people regardless of age or status. They couldn’t do it without the support of cooperating agencies and the donations of used devices and cash from generous donors.
CReATE is an initiative of the Utah Assistive Technology Program, which helps Utahns with disabilities find customized solutions to become more independent at home, school, or work. They are part of the Center for Persons with Disabilities at Utah State University.
SelectHealth recognizes the increased independence provided by CReATE as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
