April is National Volunteer Month and is dedicated to honoring all of the volunteers in our communities as well as encouraging volunteerism throughout the month.
For the past ten years, Utah has been ranked 1st in the nation for volunteerism by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Research found that 46 percent of Utah adults volunteer, and the top three activities in Utah are: tutoring and teaching; mentoring youth; and collecting and distributing food.
In addition, 78 percent of Utahns engaged in informal volunteering, which is neighbors helping neighbors in some way. This culture of volunteerism is one thing that sets our state apart. We seek to serve and are always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. The spirit of volunteerism is in our citizens, young and old.
So this month, let’s continue to volunteer in our communities and invite friends and families to join us. Service connects us all, and there are so many ways we can make a difference for those in need.
SelectHealth recognizes the giving time in service to others as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
