In 1985, 17 people living with AIDS were reported in Utah and the state was unprepared to address the HIV/AIDS issue. Today, the Utah AIDS Foundation reaches over 30,000 people each year through early education and prevention efforts with their committed corps of volunteers.
They offer assistance and expertise to anyone struggling with the complex issues that surround HIV. In the past, it was typical for clients to need extensive in-home assistance until they died, but now clients may just need hot meals delivered to their homes for a few weeks until they regain their strength and can cook for themselves.
The Utah AIDS Foundation’s two-fold approach of direct client services and targeted prevention education has provided transportation assistance, holiday meal baskets, school presentations and prevention outreach at clubs and bars. This vigorous campaign along with targeted prevention efforts, practical support, and advocacy has changed and saved lives.
SelectHealth recognizes the essential services provided by The Utah AIDS Foundation as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
