Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD effects many veterans, first responders, firefighters, and EMTs, it can change the way they live each day. Headin’ Home provides compassion, rescue, and rehabilitation to heal the mind, body, and spirit by using the healing power of equine therapy to ease their suffering.
This program is based on horse activities designed to nurture emotional growth and healing. It is offered free of charge to veterans with PTSD, TBI, anxiety, and depression. Participants learn about themselves and others by working with rescued domestic and wild horses.
While other equine therapy programs work with only domestic horses, Headin’ Home is unique because the added advantage of gentling a wild horse makes the healing process reciprocal. This activity allows the veterans to make first contact with a dynamic and powerful living being that brings added self-worth to their accomplishments.
SelectHealth recognizes the healing touch provided by Headin’ Home as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
