Police identify man killed in Sandy auto-pedestrian accident

SANDY — Around 12:40 this afternoon, Sandy Police received a report of a 44-year-old man hit by a car in a crosswalk at 10040 S. and Wasatch Boulevard.
That man has been identified by police as Fernando Cruz La Vana.
Fatal auto/ped update. The decision decreased pedestrian has been identified as Fernando Cruz La Vana 44yrs. Our hearts go out to the family. The investigation is ongoing.

Police Lieutenant Dean Carriger says La Vana died at the scene after being struck by the white Toyota Camry in the 4-way intersection.
Sandy Police Investigating a fatal auto/pedestrian accident at 10040 S. Wasatch Blvd. Wasatch Blvd. will be closed for the next couple hours. The cause of the collision is under investigation. Regardless, if you are a pedestrian entering the roadway, make sure it is safe.

The Camry was driven by a 68-year-old. Both the driver and the pedestrian are from that area.
Wasatch Boulevard remains closed until further notice, and the police investigation ongoing.
