Salt Lake County is reaching out to the Sandy residents who were potentially affected by the recent water crisis.
Free testing for lead in the residents’ blood is available on Saturday.
But not many residents have signed up.
Appointments for the blood testing are at a smaller volume than officials had hoped.
The temporary presence of unhealthy levels of copper and lead in the water is “unlikely to have long-term health impacts,” according to Salt Lake County.
The testing available to Sandy residents in the affected areas is to ensure that they do not have high levels of lead in their blood.
Residents will be subjected to a finger prick for the test. The results should be ready after about 3 minutes.
One purpose of the testing is to provide residents with a peace of mind.

There are multiple testing locations. Residents can make an appointment for a different time if all the slots are filled up.
The free testing is being provided by Intermountain Healthcare with help from ARUP, LeadCareII by Meridian, Salt Lake County Health Department, Salt Lake County Lead Safe Housing Program, and the Utah Lead Coalition.
