I think it is safe to say, as parents we all want our kids to be able to avoid some of the more unpleasant parts of our youth. But when does that desire of making things better for our kids become unhealthy? Can it actually make things worse for them?

A new poll by the Morning Consult for the New York Times found that 78% of parents of adults 18 to 28 reminded them of deadlines they needed to meet and 74% of parents of the same adults made appointments for them, such as doctor’s appointments.

Professionals say this can lead to these young adults failing to learn proper life skills.

In fearless honesty, I have done some of the things mentioned in the poll, including speaking with one of my children’s employers (though I personally knew the employer).

But the bigger question remains, are we doing more harm than good when we try to make life better for our kids than it was for us?
