Utahns enjoy spring temperatures while they last

SALT LAKE CITY — People across Utah stepped outside to enjoy the first day of spring, with sun and temperatures in the Salt Lake City area hitting 60 for the first time since 2018.
Nancy Parley was walking her new dog in Liberty Park.
“I love that it’s finally spring. I’m not a cold weather person so when spring comes, that’s fabulous,” she said.
Others enjoyed the break from the heavy snow the area saw this winter.
But the National Weather Service predicts the state will have a wetter than average spring due to the El Nino weather pattern in the Pacific Ocean.
“We’ve seen a little more cold air from the north, which we don’t usually see during El Nino. But the combination of the two that’s what’s led to our cooler and wetter winter this year, and those conditions just aren’t changing,” said NWS meteorologist David Church.
Church says that extra rain will keep the snowpack more intact, meaning the chance for flooding is lowered.
The National Weather Service is also predicting temperatures will stay in the 50s and 60s throughout the season.
