SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Family members of a robbery suspect killed after shooting multiple times before and during a vehicle pursuit in metro Salt Lake City have apologized for “the horrible events that transpired” leading to his death.

The Deseret News reports a statement released Thursday by family members of 37-year-old Harold Vincent Robinson of West Valley City hope his story will help bring awareness for those struggling with mental health issues.

The statement says Robinson suffered from mental illness and struggled with “paranoia and delusions” and was “trying to get back on tracker” after recently getting treatment.

Authorities said Robinson was killed after leading police on a chase that began after he fired his weapon numerous times at various locations in the metro area. Police say he also fired at pursuing officers.
