SOUTH SALT LAKE — One man is out of jail and another is in custody after a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a man and wounded another.

Ryan Kidrick, originally jailed for the March 9th crash at 3300 South Main Street in South Salt Lake, was released Friday night after another man, 56-year-old Richard Daniel Bice, admitted to police that he was the driver instead.

Originally, Bice told officers the night of the crash that he had gone to Kidrick’s home.

Investigators say Bice knew details of the crash only the driver would know and has a rather lengthy history of bad driving involving drug use and driving with a denied license.

Bice told officers he fled because he was using methadone and did not have a valid license.  Kidrick’s girlfriend had told police the day after his arrest that he had been home with her during the time of the accident

42-year-old Michael Corby Westover was killed. Another man, Corey Wilkerson, was treated for head injuries. Both were hit while crossing 3300 South at a crosswalk near Main Street.  According to a Salt Lake County Jail report, a Chevy Trailblazer ran a red light and hit them both.  The Trailblazer allegedly drove off after the crash.

Bice is charged with two counts of failing to remain at the scene of a fatal accident and obstruction of justice.  The Salt Lake County DA’s Office met Friday to evaluate the case to see if any additional charges will be forthcoming.
