GREEN RIVER — U.S. Highway 6, which connects the Wasatch Front to southeastern Utah, was closed for hours overnight after a deadly crash involving a tractor-trailer and a motorcycle.

The Utah Highway Patrol says a motorcyclist crossed into the center of the highway around mile marker 298 just before 11 p.m. Thursday night, colliding with an oncoming semi. The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers were not immediately able to confirm the condition of the driver of the semi, but the accident sparked a fire that destroyed the truck and its cargo. Both directions of Highway 6 were closed for about four hours.

According to UHP, alcohol, prescription drugs and windy weather may all have played a part in the crash, which is still under investigation.
