VERNAL — About two dozen educators have taken a two-day firearms training course in Uintah County.

The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office says the teachers took a class last Friday to help them qualify to get a concealed carry permit before heading to a shooting range the next day to learn how to safely use a gun, under the supervision of deputies.

A local chapter of the Safari Club International pays for the class.

Many teachers in Utah are allowed to conceal carry on campus as long as they keep their gun hidden at all times.

Hundreds of people have taken similar classes in recent years in the state following a number of high profile school shootings across the country.
