SALT LAKE CITY — West Valley City police say one person is wounded and another at large after a shooting that turned into a chase and eventually a crash in Salt Lake City, near 1900 S. Redwood Rd.
Police said at least one person was shot, apparently in the backside, in the initial shooting near 2500 Lake Crest Dr. in West Valley City.
According to police, they were on the way to respond to a call about people arguing at that location when they got another report of shots fired and a black BMW fleeing the scene.
West Valley Police Lieutenant M.T. Johnson says, “It is believed that a black male in the red sweatshirt produced a firearm and fired several shots at the black BMW.”

We have identified the suspect in this morning’s shooting. He is a juvenile and is still outstanding. We are also looking for a vehicle that looks like this. It’s a white 2000 Mercedes ML3. The plate number is OD5RR. pic.twitter.com/dwmYz9m34Y

Police say an officer nearby spotted the BMW and tried to pull the driver over, which is when the driver took off.
“Here, at about 18th South, they blew a tire and pulled over to the side of the road. All four occupants of the BMW were taken into custody,” Johnson says.
According to police, there were four people inside the BMW when it stopped, one of whom had a gunshot wound to the buttocks. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
After the chase ended, one witness says, “One was yelling and saying, ‘My brother is shot! My brother is shot!’”
That witness, who didn’t wanted to stay anonymous, says it was obvious one man getting out of the car was hurt.
“You see one dude just limping. He was limping to the back of the car, barely standing up and falling on his way. Cops were like, ‘Get up!’” he adds.
Reporters on the scene observed a large police presence and what appeared to be at least one person in custody. They also observed what appeared to be bullet holes in the door of the car.
