SALT LAKE CITY — Police say firefighters pulled a man’s body out of the Jordan River in Salt Lake City, but how he died and how he wound up in the water is a mystery.

A person walking the Jordan River Trail near Constitution Park spotted the body just before 9:45 this morning and called police. Salt Lake City firefighters were able to get the body out of the water.

Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer says they do not know when, where or how he died, or where he fell into the river.

“There is a lot of debris in the water that could have stopped the body, so we’re not sure where the body entered the river,” Shearer said.

The man was identified as Keith Fulcher, 35, whose family reported him missing a little over a week ago. Police said the body had no obvious sign of trauma that would indicate why he died.

The Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy.

“Our detectives will work with the medical examiner’s office to see how the person died,” Shearer said.
