SALT LAKE CITY — Hazmat crews rerouted traffic to the University Medical Center’s emergency room this afternoon. This happened after 25 gallons of jet fuel spilled from a tanker.
That tanker was there to refill reservoirs that hold fuel for the hospital’s helicopters. The spill happened when the fuel was being moved from the tanker to the hospital.
The Salt Lake City Fire Department says they’re not sure how the fuel spilled.
Fire Division Chief Ryan Mellor says two people got some fuel spilled on them. Those two people are now in good condition and cleaned up.
Crews are worried about fuel spilling into the city’s water system. They determined around 5:45 this evening that there was no fuel in the city water system.
