Utah has one of the oldest and largest Pacific Islander communities in the country and has been increasing each year. Because of this increase, Pacific Islander organizations all across Utah came together as the Pacific Islander Health Coalition to address the health disparities and increase access to affordable and culturally sensitive wellness services for the community.

They hope for healthier Pacific Islanders through intervention, outreach, sustainable partnerships with health organizations, providers, advocates, and policymakers. Learning healthy habits and increasing awareness can improve health outcomes for our friends and neighbors.

Some of the health disparities affecting this population are heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and infant mortality. To remind the community to stay active and have fun doing it with family or friends, they invite you to join them at the Pacific Health 5K on Saturday, July 13 at Salt Lake City’s Liberty Park. All proceeds are donated to help families with their health needs.

SelectHealth recognizes the dynamic support of the Pacific Islander Health Coalition as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
