WEST JORDAN, Utah — Amazon announced it plans to open a new fulfillment center in West Jordan, bringing more than 800 additional full-time jobs to the area.

“We’re excited to open a new, state-of-the-art fulfillment center in West Jordan and continue innovating in a state committed to providing great opportunities for jobs and customer experience,” said Alicia Boler Davis, Amazon’s Vice President of Global Customer Fulfillment, in a statement. “Utah has a talented workforce, and we are very excited to grow employment beyond the more than 2,000 associates already serving customers in the state.”

The facility is planned to encompass more than one million square feet. Employees working there will help sort customers orders and get them ready for shipping.

While the announcement from Amazon did not specify a location for the facility, the West Jordan City Council recently approved $1.6 million in incentives to a company planning to build near the intersection of Old Bingham Highway and Bacchus Highway.

It wouldn’t be the first Amazon fulfillment center built in the area; Salt Lake City opened its fulfillment center in April. The state offered Amazon a $5 million tax incentive package in 2017 to build the facility here.

The company did not announce a start date for construction or an expected date for the West Jordan facility to open.
