An 8-year-old boy is dead after being struck by a car Thursday afternoon at 4400 West 900 North in an unincorporated area of Weber County.  They say the child was hit about 3:30 p.m., and pronounced dead a short time later.  Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Courtney Ryan says the road where the child was hit had no sidewalk nor did it have a shoulder area where the child could have avoided vehicle traffic.

“In that area, there isn’t a sidewalk, curb gutter, anything like that.  It’s just the road and then the dirt edge of the road.  The boy was riding on the edge of the road,” according to Ryan.

Neighbors say the boy was lying in an area where a driveway meets the road. They think he may have been riding in the driveway.  They say the boy doesn’t live in the area, but visits his grandfather who lives down the street.

Lt. Ryan says there is no indication at the moment that there was any impairment involved, and the driver stopped immediately and cooperated with investigators.

In a separate accident, two people are dead after they were hit by a car late Thursday night on Main Street in downtown Moab.  Police say one woman and one man were crossing the street when they were hit by a car heading southbound.

Main Street was closed from Kane Creek to 500 West about 9:40 p.m.
