SALT LAKE CITY — Five members of the 4th Infantry Division of the Utah National Guard are back home after a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Sgt. Raymond Loy says they were helping oversee military operations in the country alongside Afghanis for the past 10 months.
“We don’t want southwest Asia to ever be a platform for terrorism again. That’s where we’re trying to help with that fight,” Loy says.

The Taliban, which led Afghanistan, was accused of harboring al-Qaeda terrorists as they plotted to carry out the attacks of September 11, 2001, on the U.S. However, the United States is now negotiating an end to the 18-year war in Afghanistan with the Taliban.
60 Utah National Guard members have come home from overseas missions this month.
